Ballykelly PS

Details and photographs of some of the range of activities that went on in Ballykelly Primary School during Walk to School Week.
Primary 1: We had a child who won our "Design a Walk to School Week Poster at Home" competition. This child is called Ruairi Donaghy and I have attached a picture of his winning design.
Primary 1 and 2 stepped out each day during Walk to School Week. Each day we followed a different route. We talked about the benefits of walking during Circle Time lessons and the week culminated in some fun with a "Silly Walks" activity in the playground.  Photographs of these classes out for their walks have been included.
Primary 3: One of the Primary 3 classes also completed an activity where they drew around their shoe and then wrote as many 'sh' words inside it as they could think of, thus making clear links between PDMU and Literacy.  A digital photo has been taken of this and attached to this email.
Primary 4:  This class made charts to record whether they walked to school or not. They discussed tally charts, then the children shared and designed their own charts, thus making clear links between PDMU and Mathematics.  A digital photo has been taken of one of these charts and attached to this email.
Primary 6:  This class constructed a graph (photo included) of ways in which they travel to school, making clear links between PDMU and thier Data Handling topic.  They also discussed the concept of safety when walking to and from school.
This is an overview of some of the activities that took place in our school.  Parents were very involved as a result of a newsletter making them aware of and encouraging participation in Walk to School Week.
