St Clare's Convent Primary, Newry
St. Clare's Convent PS participated in "Walk to School Week" this year for the first time.
Analysis of the increased numbers of families taking up the challenge was explored in the Data Handling maths topic being covered in many classes, with pupils displaying results through a variety of graphs, charts and tables.
The pupils and their parents were also encouraged to see the links between walking to school and the whole school awareness raising work being done in relation to developing healthy life styles and caring for the environment. These links were explored at an assembly led by the "Environment Prefects".
The walk to school week culminated in a school community sponsored walk in aid of school funds. Pupils, staff, parents, grandparents, younger brothers and sisters and friends of St. Clare's put on their walking boots and had a relaxing fun filled walk together to reinforce the message that walking is an ideal family past time which benefits all.
