Hezlett Primary School

Hezlett Primary School entered into the spirit of Walk to School week with great enthusiasm! Having been part of an exciting SUSTRANS project, many children in school have enjoyed walking and cycling to school on a regular basis, sporting their very flashy ‘Hezlett High Visibility’ jackets.
But Walk to School Week, organised by Travelwise NI,  brought the walkers and cyclers out in record breaking numbers, and on Friday one hundred and forty eight children walked to school from Articlave and Castlerock in the biggest walking bus lines the school has ever seen. With parents joining in and many other children cycling along the new shared use paths, the bright jackets were very hard to miss!
Walking and cycling is, of course, only one part of a healthy lifestyle and the children have also been thinking about the right foods to eat as part of a healthy diet. So on arrival to school on Friday lots of fruit was offered in the assembly hall and the children had the opportunity to create their own ‘fruit cocktail’ and get off to a good start in their ‘5-a-day’ plans!
