Public Transport
An investment of £1.23BN has been proposed by the Department for Regional Development to improve public transport in Northern Ireland.

Public Transport
This will include:
- A rapid transit network for the Belfast Metropolitan area
- Quality bus corridors on all main radial routes to Belfast
- Enhancement of the current rail network
- Improved walking and cycling measures
- Innovative rural public transport services
- A transport programme for people with disabilities

Belfast Metro
Metro is the new name for Belfast’s bus service. As well as the name, there’s a
new look – and a whole lot more too!
Metro means better services for more people. Improved reliability and frequency.

Metro Smartlink
Please Note: Smartlink "Citybus" Multi-Journey &
Travel Cards are valid for use on ALL Metro services.
Smartlink is a plastic smart card which can be loaded in one of two ways to enable
you to buy either a certain number of journeys in advance (Multi-Journey or MJ) OR to buy a week or
a month’s worth of travel (Travel Card).Your card can only be used for ONE of these products, so when
you buy your first Smartlink Card you will need to decide whether you want it to be a MJ Card or a Travel
Card.
Metro Nightlink
Nightlink is a convenient, cost effective and reliable late night service 'home'
from Belfast city centre after a Saturday night (01:00 hrs & 02:00 hrs). There are eight Nightlink
services:
- Antrim (01:00) & Antrim (02:00)
- Ballynahinch (01:00) & Ballynahinch/Downpatrick (02:00)
- Bangor
- Carrickfergus
- Comber/Ballygowan
- Lisburn
- Newtownabbey
- Newtownards
All buses depart from Donegall Square West
at 01:00hrs and 02:00hrs. Fares are £3.50 per person.
All services operate a no-smoking and non-alcohol policy and have CCTV cameras in
operation on all buses.
